The development of the three hydro-ponic or semi-hydro-ponic systems that are suitable for the UAE growing conditions are as follows:

1. Vertical Growing System: specially designed growing pots manufactured locally allowing vertical stacking of up-to ten pots on top of each other, filled with special mixture of media, and allows watering from the top draining downwards. At the bottom, a plastic collector container collects excess water and returns back to the main water reservoir, allowing water recycling as well as the fertilizers contained in the water, thereby saving water and fertilizers to a great extent. Also, saving 75% labor costs and very minimal usage of chemicals costs saving upto 85%, saving Fertilizer cost of more than 75% with better yields and quality of crops are this systems other main features.
2. The Channels System of growing: This system is uniquely developed by Mirak Agricultural Services for open field production of vegetables and strawberries allowing recycling of irrigated water and fertilizers. Specially designed channels with perforated PVC pipes are installed under ground and topped with a specially blended growing media for plants to grow in. Superior results have been achieved. This system has a number of advantages over the vertical that gives high yields and quality production.
3. The Bench Pot Growing System: This system is also uniquely developed, implemented and adopted to UAE Climatic condition by Mirak Agricultural Services. This system has proved to be the most efficient and suitable for growing many crops in the UAE harsh conditions that can compete with the best in the world. French Beans produced in this system is exclusively being exported to Japan and European Markets. Strawberries are best grown in this system with outstanding results. All types of lettuces are grown in this system with the highest quality and standards that meets the best of the best. Many other crops are growing in this system. Mirak probably has at the moment the Largest open Field Hydro-phonic Growing system in the World with over 165 Acres of this Bench Pot Growing System in all its Farms.

These three systems, particularly the Bench Pot System, if implemented on a large scale in the UAE, and probably in other regions, shall preserve the natural resources of the country, mainly water, and shall allow efficient and cost effectiveness of production of many vegetables with increased yields and quality.

Mirak’s main policy in production of crops has always been to limit the use of chemical that is becoming a normal practice with many growers around the world. Although we are not Organic Growers, most of our crops are very close to it. Chemicals are seldom used thanks to our growing techniques, and we use very safe ones that are internationally acceptable and approved by WHO. Instead, we implement a vigorous and wide range of preventive measures to avoid using chemicals on our crops. Also, protection of environment is featured highly in our programs.
